The loggers are out of control, encouraged by the promise of amnesty and the new regulations. Shocking data published last week show that deforestation has multiplied to an astronomical level, increasing 5 times more than the same month last year. This is just a sign of things to come if the proposed changes are approved. These amendments would grant amnesty to environmental crimes committed before 2008 and will end up with protection to vulnerable areas such as riparian forests and hilltops, areas where forest cover is crucial to prevent landslides and floods, like the recent devastating communities from south to north the country.
Most Brazilians support stronger environmental protections and studies show that there is sufficient land in Brazil to maintain and increase agricultural production without having to tear down a single tree. But the members of the caucus, dominated by private interests of agribusiness, think they can get away with trying to destroy the Brazilian Forestry Code. This struggle between civil society and powerful political interests is becoming a major environmental battle in the history of Brazil.
During the election campaign, Dilma promised to veto any bill that increased deforestation - will collect their pledge and ask the people to be placed above political interests. It's time to show our power and sending an avalanche of messages to the government asking that the President and party leaders Dilma prevent the weakening of the Forest Code. Send your message now!

Every day we protect our forests, environmental disasters - they make the air we breathe, our cool climate, promote biodiversity and maintain the land rooted in place. Now they need our protection. Without us, the most precious natural resources of Brazil lost to the powerful interests of members who just want to expand their land and increase their profits. We have a few hours - will mobilize before it is too late.
